VT0014 Explained: Verra’s Digital Soil Mapping Tool For Soil Carbon Projects

What VT0014 Is

VT0014 is Verra’s tool for estimating soil organic carbon stocks using digital soil mapping. Verra states that it provides guidance for the development, calibration, and validation of data-driven modeling methods to estimate soil organic carbon stocks in a spatially explicit manner, including model uncertainty estimation.

How Verra Describes Its Use

Verra states that VT0014 is intended to be used along with VM0042, VM0032, and potentially other methodologies that quantify soil organic carbon stocks in agricultural lands.

Verra lists VT0014 as active from 26 August 2025.

Perennial’s Role

Verra’s VT0014 page lists Perennial as the developer. Verra’s announcement on the launch of the tool states that development was led by Perennial and Verra, with support from TerraCarbon and contributions from a multidisciplinary working group.

Perennial also states that VT0014 can be used in Verra ALM projects that require soil organic carbon quantification, including projects under VM0042 and VM0032.

October 2025 Corrections

Verra published corrections and clarifications in October 2025 covering VM0032, VM0042, and VT0014. Verra states that these updates enable the use of VT0014 with the active versions of VM0032 and VM0042 and include guidance on the calculation of the mean change in soil organic carbon stocks.
