Structured Trade Finance Products

Structured trade finance products are loans repaid from the sale of a specific commodity and secured on the goods, contracts, and receivables behind it. The main ones are pre-export finance, prepayment, borrowing base facilities, warehouse and inventory finance, tolling finance, and receivables finance.

The Six Main Products

Pre-Export Finance

A loan to a producer, repaid from export sales to named offtakers, with the sales proceeds assigned to the lender.

Prepayment

A buyer or trader pays upfront for future deliveries, often funded by a bank that takes security over the contract.

Borrowing Base Facility

A revolving line sized to eligible stock, receivables, and cash, recalculated as the trader's book moves.

Warehouse and Inventory Finance

Funding against goods held under a collateral manager, often backed by warehouse receipts.

Tolling Finance

Finance for raw materials sent to a smelter, refinery, or processor, repaid from sale of the finished product.

Receivables Finance

Discounting or forfaiting of invoices and LC proceeds, often with credit insurance on the buyer.

We also coordinate the parties each product needs, including collateral managers, inspection companies, credit insurers, and legal counsel, so the facility can close and draw on time. For a full mandate, see our structured trade finance advisory services.

Who It Is For

Commodity producers, traders, and processors in metals, energy, and agriculture with contracted buyers and transactions of USD 5 million or more.

FAQ

How is structured trade finance different from a corporate loan?

A corporate loan relies on the balance sheet. Structured trade finance relies on the specific trade, so smaller or riskier companies can borrow more.

Which product suits a first transaction?

Usually a single-cargo prepayment or inventory facility, which lenders can control tightly before moving to a borrowing base.

What security do lenders take?

Typically an assignment of sale contracts and proceeds, a pledge over the goods, and control of the collection account.
