Solar Tax Equity and Tax Credit Transfer Advisory

US solar and storage projects can monetise federal tax credits through tax equity partnerships or by selling the credits to a buyer under the transferability rules. Which route works depends on eligibility, timing and who will take the tax risk.

FG Capital Advisors helps sponsors prepare the project for tax equity investors and credit buyers and coordinates the process with the sponsor's tax counsel. We do not give tax or legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are US solar tax credits still available?

The rules changed under the law enacted on July 4, 2025. Solar projects that began construction by July 4, 2026 under the IRS rules can remain eligible, while other solar projects generally must be placed in service by December 31, 2027. Your tax counsel must confirm eligibility for your project.

What is the difference between tax equity and a credit transfer?

In tax equity, an investor joins the project ownership and receives the tax benefits. In a transfer, the owner sells eligible credits to a buyer for cash and keeps ownership.

Does FG Capital Advisors give tax advice?

No. We coordinate with your tax counsel and present the project to investors and buyers. Tax and legal positions come from your advisers.
