Solar Plus Storage Project Financing

Adding a battery to a solar project changes the revenue, the technical risk and the way lenders size debt. Financing goes smoothly when the storage revenue is contracted or clearly modeled and the augmentation plan is funded.

FG Capital Advisors structures co-located and hybrid solar plus storage projects and arranges debt and equity from third party lenders and investors.

Who This Is For

Hybrid Project Developers

Developers adding battery storage to new utility scale or commercial solar projects.

Owners Retrofitting Storage

Owners of operating solar plants adding a battery behind the same interconnection point.

What FG Capital Advisors Arranges

Revenue Structuring

Review of hybrid PPAs, tolling, capacity and merchant revenue, and how each is shown in the lender case.

Technical and Model Inputs

Degradation, augmentation, round trip efficiency and dispatch assumptions set out explicitly in the model.

Debt and Equity

Construction and term debt sized to each revenue stream, plus sponsor equity and tax equity or credit transfer where eligible.

Contract Interfaces

Alignment of the solar EPC, battery supply, warranties and O&M so the risk sits in the right place.

This service is part of our Solar Project Finance Advisory work, which covers every stage of solar and renewable energy financing.

How It Works

  1. You send the project details through the client intake form, including solar and storage capacity, location, stage, offtake and the capital you need.
  2. We review revenue, technical and contract interfaces as lenders will and list the gaps in writing.
  3. We build or audit the model with separate solar and storage revenue cases and size the debt.
  4. We approach lenders and investors that finance hybrid projects and coordinate diligence to close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do lenders treat storage revenue differently from solar revenue?

Solar output under a PPA is relatively predictable. Storage revenue depends on dispatch, market prices and degradation unless it is contracted, so lenders size debt on it more cautiously.

Can storage be added to an operating solar plant and financed?

Often yes, if the interconnection, land rights and existing finance documents allow it. Existing lender consent is usually needed.

What is an augmentation plan?

It is the plan and budget for adding or replacing battery capacity over time so the system can keep meeting its contracted capacity.
