Full-Scope Waste Heat Removal Consulting

If you are running a data center, a process plant or a district energy network, heat rejection is not optional. It is the difference between uptime and downtime, between passing an inspection and facing fines. We deliver a full program from audit to commissioning. The brief is simple. Remove waste heat safely, cut operating risk, and, where it makes sense, convert a part of that heat into revenue.

Who We Serve

Data Centers

Greenfield and retrofit. Liquid cooling and air-cooled. Heat rejection that meets uptime targets and local discharge rules.

Industrial Plants

Steel, cement, glass, chemicals, food and bev. Process heat maps, bottleneck removal and water strategy.

District Energy and Real Estate

Heat sinks for urban projects, network upgrades, and export of low-grade heat into district loops.

Scope of Work

Feasibility and Heat Mapping

Source-by-source heat balance, hourly profiles, pinch analysis and site constraints. Clear baselines and targets before money is spent.

Thermal Modeling

CFD where it adds value. Fan curves, approach temps, wet-bulb profiles and seasonal derates. We model the real bottlenecks, not just the brochure numbers.

Heat Rejection Design

Cooling towers, dry coolers, adiabatic systems, hybrid solutions and reuse loops. Layout, controls, redundancy and noise limits.

Heat Recovery and Reuse

High-lift heat pumps for export, ORC for power when grade allows, absorption chillers for process cooling, and links to district heating.

Water and Legionella Risk

Make-up water plans, blowdown handling, drift control and monitoring. Keep safety and compliance front and center.

Electrical and Controls

Power supply, switchgear and PLC logic. Start-up and trip sequences that protect equipment and keep the plant running.

Permitting and Environmental

Thermal discharge limits, plume studies, intake and outfall checks, noise, visual and setback rules. We set the dossier up for fast review.

EPC RFP and Contracts

Technical specs, bidder list, Q&A, commercial screens and award support. Liquidated damages tied to the KPIs that matter.

Commissioning and M&V

Function tests, seasonal performance checks and trending. The goal is stable operations, not just a handover party.

Financing Support

Capex and Opex model, heat offtake terms where export is real, ORC or heat pump vendor financing options, and insurance wraps where available.

Solution Menu

Cooling Tower Retrofit

Cell rebuilds, fill upgrades, drift eliminators, VFDs and fan upgrades. Often the fastest route to lower approach and noise.

Dry and Adiabatic Coolers

For water-constrained sites. Hybrid control to hold approach in peak season without a constant water penalty.

High-Lift Heat Pumps

Export low-grade heat to a paying sink. CO₂ or ammonia machines with clear COP targets and grid impact accounted for.

ORC Waste Heat to Power

When temperature and flow make sense. Clear cut-off rules to avoid chasing marginal kWh that only add complexity.

Absorption and Tri-Gen

Turn excess heat into chilled water where cooling demand exists. Simple, steady, and tied to real loads.

District Heat Export

Interconnect design, pressure and metering. Contract terms that pay on delivered energy, not promises.

Documentation and Controls

Core Docs

P&IDs, single-line diagrams, datasheets, O&M manuals, test procedures, water treatment program, noise report and plume study.

Control Points

Setpoints, redundancy logic, alarm matrix, seasonal modes, Legionella plan, and maintenance calendar tied to real runtime hours.

Indicative Economics

Case Scope Capex Range Energy Impact Notes
Cooling Tower Upgrade Fan and fill upgrades, VFDs, drift control USD 1.5–4.0m Lower fan kW, tighter approach Often short lead and quick win
Dry/Adiabatic Field New banks, hybrid control, noise screens USD 4–12m Less water use, stable summer performance Check grid capacity and footprint
Heat Pump Export CO₂ or ammonia HP, HX, export loop USD 8–25m Revenue from heat sales Needs a bankable heat offtaker
ORC Package Skid, condenser, tie-ins USD 6–20m kWh from medium-grade heat Only when temps and load are steady

Ranges are indicative and exclude civil, grid upgrades and taxes. Final numbers depend on grade, flow, climate, site layout and supply chain.

Execution Process

1 Discovery call and data request. We confirm scope, constraints and goals.
2 Site walk and heat map. Baseline, bottlenecks and heat sinks documented.
3 Options study. Shortlist with capex, opex, water and footprint trade-offs.
4 Basis of design. P&IDs, controls concept and vendor list approved.
5 EPC RFP and award. Firm bids, risk allocation and schedule agreed.
6 Permits submitted. We track comments until approval.
7 Construction support. Submittal reviews and weekly progress controls.
8 Commissioning and M&V. Seasonal tests, training and close-out pack.

Typical timeline from feasibility to notice-to-proceed is 16 to 32 weeks if data and site access are available.

Risk and Compliance

Operational Risk

We design for fail-safe modes, spares strategy and workable maintenance windows. No wishful thinking in alarm settings.

Environmental Risk

Thermal plume, drift, noise, visual and water use. All addressed in specs and checked in the model before tender.

Commercial Risk

Contracts that pay for delivered performance. LDs linked to heat rejection and supply KPIs you can measure.

Safety

Safe access, chemical handling, legionella control and confined space rules are built into the plan and the budget.

Why Hire FG Capital Advisors

We are not a vendor pushing one box. We act as your owner’s engineer and commercial partner. We build the data room, run the numbers, and sit across the table from suppliers until the contract protects you. If the project will not work on paper, we say so. If it can work, we show the path and staff it to the finish line.

FAQs

Do you act as EPC?

No. We are the advisor and owner’s engineer. We run the RFP, negotiate terms and oversee the work to completion.

Do you arrange financing?

We support financing and offtake when the case is sound. We structure terms and introduce capital. Lenders decide.

What about heat recovery credits?

Where policy allows, we assess eligibility. We will not base a project case on uncertain incentives.

Minimum project size?

We prefer projects in the 1 to 20+ MWth band. Smaller pilots are accepted when they lead to scale.
